Duane K. Shelley born June 23rd, 1936 passed away in his home, surrounded by family, April 2nd, 2021 at the age of 84. Duane had a short, intense battle with cancer. Family and friends were by his side during this struggle, his last month on earth.
Duane worked as a salesman and sales manager for most of his career. He was also an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather – as well as wonderful friend, uncle, and brother. Duane was born in Watford City, North Dakota and moved with his family to Northwestern Montana at the age of six weeks. When he was six years old, his family moved to Gresham, Oregon where he spent most of the rest of his life, except for a brief time in Klamath Falls, Oregon in the mid 1950’s. During his time in Gresham, he graduated from Gresham High School, along with his wife of over 60 years, Jill Lewis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jill; son Keith; his parents and two siblings. He is survived by his children Guy (Jill) Shelley of Husum, WA; Lynne (Pete) Welch of Trout Lake, WA; Tina Ouellette (Mark Garretta) of Vancouver, WA; and Rick (Toni) Shelley of Wilsonville, OR.
Duane had many grandchildren, great grandchildren and his first great-great grandchild last year, with his second great-great grandchild expected this Fall.
He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and most of all spending time with family and friends. Remembrances can be made to either Snow-Cap, where Duane volunteered, Nature Conservancy, or to Kaiser Hospice. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Kaiser Hospice for their support, and “Charlie” our angel that helped care for our father in his home. Please sign the memorial page at Gresham Memorial Chapel.

April 16, 2021 at 12:31 pmWe are so sorry for your loss. We are going to miss Duane very much. Seeing and chatting with him at least weekly. My boys remember with great fondness mowing the lawn and the cold cokes and talks that always followed. Even when they became adults he always asked them about their jobs and families. He always remembered what was going on in their lives, in all our lives, and truly cared. We can not imagine him not being there. He will be greatly missed by the Unruh family.
