On August 4th, 2022, Doris Rose Ide passed away peacefully at the age of 91. She was the loving mother of 3 children: Darlene Frashour (Ron), Janine Kirstein, and David Ide (Tina), all of Gresham. She also adored and was extremely proud of her 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Family always came first for Doris, and she provided amazing love and support for all of them. She loved being surrounded by Darlene, Janine, and David along with all their children and grandchildren. That was her happy place. Doris was proceeded in death by her parents James and Elma Swartwood, her brothers Elmer, Orville, and Archie, her sister Opal, her husband Erv Ide in 2008, and her grandson Scott Wills in 2020.
Born February 15th, 1931 in Topeka, Kansas, Doris lived the majority of her childhood in Pueblo, Colorado and lived almost her entire adult life in Gresham, Oregon. Along with her husband Erv, she owned and operated McBain’s Drug Store in downtown Gresham. From the 1960’s through the 1980’s, she could be found behind the 23-stool soda fountain, behind one of the cash registers in the gift/card section, or perhaps working with her husband in the pharmacy section of the store. When the formal workday was done, she would head home to do what she loved the most, taking care of her loving family.
After the drugstore was sold in 1988, Doris had long careers at The Glass Butterfly selling women’s apparel, and finally at Dee’s Bridal Studio selecting, fitting, and selling wedding gowns for the young women of Gresham. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held for our loving mother and grandmother on Tuesday, August 23rd at 2pm at First Baptist Church of Gresham 224 Powell Blvd Gresham, OR. 97030. Private interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family suggests memorial gifts to Shriners Children’s Portland
