Carol Willa Petereit Vavrek, age 88, passed away quietly Sunday night. She was loved and will be missed by her husband Richard Vavrek of 69 years, her daughter Christiann Vavrek and son Gordon Vavrek as well as her devoted daughter-in-law Pam Moffitt Vavrek. She found great joy with her 4 grand-children and 11 great-grandchildren. They loved her very much and will miss her. She was born in Kemmer, WY, it was 47 Degrees below 0 she went to and came home from the hospital in a horse drawn sleigh. Carol was a Sergeant in the Air Force and worked in the Pentagon. She married Richard “Dick” Vavrek on Sept 7, 1951 and retired from the Air Force. When Dick finished his tour they moved to Portland, OR and spent the remainder of their adult life together in Portland and Gresham. In the early 70’s she went to college and became a RN. She worked as a private practice nurse until she retired in l993. She was a member of the LDS church and was very active and devoted to serving the Lord through various activities and groups in the church. One of her last assignments was to ensure the local missionaries had a dinner provided by the members daily. Fitting for those of you who knew her as she was always feeding us or offering one of her many desserts always available to tempt us.
She will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery with military honors in a private ceremony. Gresham Memorial Chapel we will have a viewing on Wed, September 23 from 2 pm to 7 pm. We invite you to the public viewing and ask you to please sign the guest book while there.
