Betty Jean Paul was born to George and Dora Paul in Portland Oregon on October 21st, 1935. They soon made their home on 122nd where Betty Jean went to Gilbert grade School for 7 years.
Her folks moved to Stone Road in Orient School district where she finished her grade school year and went to Gresham High School. During this time, she met Ralph Stone who lived across the street and farmed with his father on Stone Road. A strong friendship formed and after a few years they grew closer. Ralph was drafted into the army while Betty Jean continued her high school education. When Ralph returned and Betty Jean had completed her years at Gresham High School, they married and moved to Hudson Rd. Here is where their four children were raised with much love in our home. Wayne (Debbie), Michael (Barbara), Sharon, Linda (Don), 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and, 3 great/ great grandchildren.
During this time Betty Jean started working at Cottrell Grade School where her 4 children also attended. She loved her job at Cottrell and called all those there whom she loved her Cottrell family. She continued to gather with many of these beloved ones, and several who came to see her in her home recently. Life in the late sixty’s, seventy’s, and eighties was much simpler, where the community gathered around the school and everyone knew each other. A place where life was sweet, baseball games on summer evenings, after a morning of picking berries, and sometimes an afternoon at Roslyn lake to cool off. Then in the fall back to school happy to be back in the routine of community with others. Conversations with Betty and her children often reflect on how this was such a wonderful time to live and grow up in.
In 1981 Ralph became ill and passed, leaving the whole family devastated. By now all Bettys children had left the nest and together with her children close by all recovered with a greater sense of how important family love and support is.
After Ralphs death Betty Jean met Sam Callister and they married in 1986. He had two children Tim and Wendy who were welcomed into the family. Tim (Cheryl) Wendy (Craig) and 4 grand children
Betty Jean Loved her family dearly; she mentioned many times how she had the best family in the whole world. want to express all my love and thoughtfulness, not only to my family, but the many friends who have brought to me such joy and love in the many years, but especially the last few months.
Betty spoke as her daughter Sharon dictated the above message the morning before she transitioned. She wanted to write her own obituary and so she did, her mind staying sharp till the end.
